The Faculty Innovation Hub of the Los Angeles Regional Consortium (LARC) is planning the first-ever Applied Learning Innovation and Equity Convening Workshop on April 29, 2024, at The California Endowment in Downtown Los Angeles! This event will gather some of the brightest equity champions to share innovative ideas that have enabled them to close equity gaps in the classroom. The Convening is specifically open to faculty within Business, Technology, Media , and Health Sciences who are committed to ongoing efforts aimed at bridging these gaps in the context of applied learning.

Students in the Los Angeles region come from diverse and multifaceted backgrounds. It is the Faculty Innovation Hub’s belief that innovative curricula and instruction grounded in equity best practices as well as contextualized/applied learning will maximize student success. Measurable outcomes including, but not limited to, entry into living wage career pathways, academic performance, educational goal clarity, course completion, retention, and attainment of degree/certificates are of immediate interest. We seek the best of the best to show others how their equitable efforts have resulted in transformative student outcomes in (and even outside!) the classroom.

By the end of the Convening, faculty within all 4 Meta-Clusters will be equipped with equity best practices and tools to take back their campus.

Space is limited as there will be a total of 8 faculty from each of the 19 colleges. Please use the QR Code within the accompanying flyer to register. We cannot wait to see you there!

Faculty Innovation Hub Steering Committee Equity Statement: In its essence, the LARC Regional Faculty Innovation Hub stands on the bedrock principle of equity, which serves not merely as an aspirational goal but as a fundamental guide for all decisions and actions. This core principle is realized through our concrete outcome goals aimed at improving student connection, retention, and success rates across diverse sectors. In bridging our foundational commitment to equity with tangible outcomes, we not only affirm but also enact our belief that every student, while honoring their background, should have the opportunities they need to fulfill their educational and employment aspirations.

Focusing on the four meta clusters – Business, Media, Health Sciences, Technology – we actively work to advance equity and inclusion by mobilizing equity practitioners in fields across the nineteen colleges to share their best practices. In collaboration we seek transformational change to programs and instruction through contextualized and applied learning that leads to better connection, retention, and success for all students who deserve the opportunity to achieve their educational goals, living wage jobs, and beyond.
