LAUNCH LA Apprenticeship Network

For Students

Apprenticeship programs within the LA-19 Community Colleges offer students opportunities to advance in a career and continue their education. Students participating in registered apprenticeships receive tuition-free education and paid on-the-job training that directly supports their development in their desired career path.

Take the next step to receive a skills-based education that prepares you for jobs in high growth, and emerging industries. For more information about apprenticeship opportunities, check out the LARC Apprenticeship Map or contact Helene Harris, hxsparangis@pasadena.edu

What is an Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship programs combine classroom instruction and on-the-job training, allowing apprentices to learn specific skills for a targeted occupation. In the classroom, apprentices acquire essential knowledge, which they then apply and develop in their job roles with their employer. Ideally, apprentices will work alongside experienced staff members to further enhance their skills, building on what they’ve learned in their classes.

As apprentices continue to grow their skill set, the program encourages progress through wage increases and potential promotions, based on the employer's assessment. Upon successful completion of both the classroom training and on-the-job requirements, apprentices will receive certification from the state’s Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the federal Department of Labor, along with any academic accolades earned through the community college.

Why Launch?

Benefits of Joining a Launch Apprenticeship

Advance Your Career, Confidently

The LAUNCH program works closely with employers to ensure students are entering the workforce with industry-demanded skills and aptitudes. Because of this partnership with business, LAUNCH apprentices can have confidence that what they are learning will advance their career.

LAUNCH apprenticeships cost less

LAUNCH apprenticeships also cost much less than similar programs at for-profit private schools. Those higher costs often leave students tens of thousands of dollars in debt upon graduation. LAUNCH apprenticeships cost far less because they are run by the local public schools. Many of the LAUNCH pathways include a tuition-free college education as part of the apprenticeship.

Support throughout your career

While trade schools often train students for only the most basic levels, leaving students on their own after graduation for certifications and licensing, LAUNCH continues working with apprentices while they start their career, and our 19 community colleges throughout Los Angeles County will be here for you throughout your career to upskill and reskill as needed.

Get paid for your training

LAUNCH students are paid for their work while they train, so instead of ending the program with debt, apprentices have earned a salary and are already working by the time they complete the program.

LAUNCH apprenticeships offer significant benefits over training programs at private trade schools.
