Pathways Improvement Scope

The project seeks to partner with SGVEP and other industry partners to expand available internship opportunities–developing a sequenced continuum of integrated WBL activities and collaborate with community colleges to offer courses on “soft skills”.

Goals & Priorities

To meet the regional need for an educated and skilled workforce (as cited in the LAOC Regional Plan 2020 Update), the FC will partner with the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership (SGVEP), NAF, and local chambers of commerce to expand industry sector advisory councils to inform pathway WBL curricula to include relevant certification preparation in addition to internships, job shadows, mock interviews, job site visits, and guest speakers. The FC will also fund programs and pathways with materials and supplies recommended by industry experts and advisory members to ensure students will practice needed skills in order to pass industry-recognized certification exams. Lastly, the FC will enroll CTE students in community college non-credit and dual enrollment CTE courses to a) develop career ready practices including a course on Soft Skills, focusing on effective communication, critical thinking and problem-solving, working productively in teams, developing an education and career plan, and work ethics, and b) continue student attainment of stackable certifications.
