Blue Economy and Climate Action Pathways 2.0 (BECAP 2.0) is a forward-thinking initiative aimed at preparing Los Angeles students and faculty for emerging careers in the ocean economy, aligned with California’s climate action and environmental justice priorities. The project develops and “climatizes” workforce training programs in five key areas: Regenerative Aquaculture, Ecosystem Conservation and Restoration, Ocean Renewable Energy and Carbon Capture, Blue Tech and Underwater Robotics, and EV Charging. By fostering partnerships with industry leaders like AltaSea and LAEDC, BECAP 2.0 promotes employer engagement, internships, and job placement. It emphasizes curriculum development based on industry needs, faculty professional development, and inclusivity, particularly for vulnerable populations. The initiative integrates STEM and CTE programs with opportunities in biotechnology, renewable energy, and blue/climate technologies, driving sustainable ocean economy growth in the L.A. region.
