Pathways Improvement Scope

The Lynwood Unified School District (LUSD) initiative aims to enhance college and career exploration opportunities by expanding resources, upgrading equipment, and providing comprehensive support for students at the middle and high school levels. Through strengthened partnerships with Compton College, Charles Drew University (CDU), Cerritos College, and the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), the project will offer dual enrollment courses, mentorship programs, and industry-based learning experiences in high-demand fields like health sciences, advanced manufacturing, and media arts. Students will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment, participate in career exploration workshops, and engage in STEM enrichment activities, such as Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and Paxton Patterson labs. The initiative also focuses on mentorship and networking opportunities, ensuring equitable access to resources and career pathways for underserved students. Key goals include increasing CTE enrollment and completion rates, enhancing early exposure to postsecondary coursework, and preparing students for high-skill, high-wage careers in alignment with regional labor market needs. With targeted support services and integrated academic and technical training, the project will bridge the gap between secondary education and workforce readiness, empowering over 800 students annually to succeed in high-growth industries

Goals & Priorities

Our project focuses on enhancing alignment between us and our community college partners—Charles Drew University (CDU), Compton College, and other local community colleges—to create dual enrollment opportunities that lead to high-wage, high-demand career paths. The goal is to ensure that our students, particularly those from underserved backgrounds, have access to rigorous academic and technical coursework that aligns with industry needs. We aim to increase student participation in dual enrollment programs with these colleges by 30% over the next three years. The college coursework will concentrate on sectors like Health Sciences (Biotech, Child Development, Nursing), Advanced Manufacturing (Solidworks, Machine Tool Technologies), and Media Arts (Graphic Design and Production), allowing our students to earn college credits while in high school.
