Pathways Improvement Scope
The Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) is addressing a growing skills gap in the creative and digital media industries by launching a new Graphic Design/Digital Media pathway. This initiative responds to the increasing demand for skilled workers in high-growth fields like branding, UX/UI design, and digital media, particularly in the Los Angeles area, where companies such as Amazon Studios and TikTok are driving job growth. The pathway will align with Santa Monica College’s programs, ensuring students are prepared for college certificates, degrees, and high-wage careers, while addressing equity gaps among underserved student populations. With targeted support, mentorship, and access to industry-standard technology, this pathway will increase career readiness and expand opportunities for students to pursue post-secondary success.
Goals & Priorities
The project aims to close equity gaps and improve access to high-skill, high-wage CTE opportunities in Graphic Design/Digital Media for disproportionately impacted students. Key efforts include targeted counseling, mentoring by industry professionals, and work-based learning through real-world projects, internships, and apprenticeships. The pathway will provide robust career services such as resume workshops, portfolio development, and job placement support, ensuring students gain practical skills and access to industry networks. Objectives include aligning with Santa Monica College to streamline transitions, creating industry-relevant curriculum, increasing pathway enrollment by 50% within three years, and offering certifications in Adobe Creative Cloud to enhance students’ employability in high-demand fields.
