Pathways Improvement Scope

The grant project seeks to address the gap between student awareness and access to high-demand, high-wage career pathways in Los Angeles County, particularly for underserved students, including English Learners, Foster Youth, and those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. By expanding Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways and dual enrollment opportunities at Olympic High School, students can earn college credits and gain early exposure to fields like Engineering, Computer Science, Health, and Media Arts. Middle school exploration courses will build foundational skills, while dual enrollment at Santa Monica College provides access to college resources and industry connections to smooth the transition from high school to college. The ultimate goal is to increase awareness, enrollment, and preparation for high-demand careers, empowering students for post-secondary success in the evolving job market.

Goals & Priorities

The project seeks to expand access to high-demand career pathways and strengthen support for underserved students, including English Learners, Foster Youth, and socio-economically disadvantaged populations. By increasing participation in Career Technical Education (CTE) and dual enrollment programs, beginning in middle school and continuing through high school, it aims to prepare students for careers in thriving industries such as healthcare, engineering, and technology. The initiative targets a 20% increase in participation among underserved students, improved academic performance through Summer Bridge programs, and enhanced support services, including counseling and industry connections, to promote pathway completion and career readiness. Partnerships with Santa Monica College will provide students with college credits, skills, and resources to ensure post-secondary success.
