Pathways Improvement Scope

Bassett USD’s scope of improvement is to enhance curriculum and instruction for underrepresented students in high-demand fields like child development, HVAC, engineering, and medical assisting. Key activities include developing industry-relevant CTE curricula, introducing middle school courses to foster early career readiness, and providing professional development to equip educators with effective instructional strategies. Partnerships with local businesses will create internships, job shadowing, and apprenticeships, connecting students to real-world career pathways. The program will also invest in industry-standard equipment, offer targeted academic support to address equity gaps and implement a monitoring framework to track progress and drive continuous improvement.

Goals & Priorities

The project aims to expand career pathways for underrepresented students in the Bassett Unified School District (BUSD), focusing on child development education, HVAC, engineering, and medical assisting. Recent LCAP surveys indicate a strong demand for expanded pathways at the high school and enhanced career exploration opportunities at the middle school level, addressing student requests and labor market needs in the Los Angeles region.

Expansion Goals: The expansion of CTE programs will introduce multiple complete pathways to increase CTE completion rates and enhance the percentage of students who achieve college and career readiness. By providing equitable access to vocational training aligned with local labor market needs, we will better prepare all students—especially those from historically underserved backgrounds—for successful careers.
