Pathways Improvement Scope

SPUSD aims to enhance and expand Design, Visual & Media Arts and Production & Managerial Arts classes, addressing labor market changes and catering to socioeconomically disadvantaged students. Seeking funding for improved resources, the focus is on preparing students for careers in the regional ICT/Digital Media sector, emphasizing graphic design, desktop publishing, and photography. The grant will also enhance opportunities in media arts courses, addressing challenges in online news presence and advertising. Collaborative efforts with PCC for dual enrollment courses further complement the Production & Managerial Arts pathway. To address the challenge of retaining socioeconomically disadvantaged students, SPUSD plans increased recruitment efforts and aims to create a stronger pipeline for students to pursue careers in the LA region’s growing industry sector.

Goals & Priorities

The project aims to enhance Design, Visual & Media Arts and Production & Managerial Arts classes in South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD), focusing on increased student participation. Objectives include providing resources, professional development, and collaborating with Pasadena City College (PCC) to expand dual enrollment courses. The curriculum will be updated to incorporate digital creation skills, and efforts will be made to recruit socioeconomically disadvantaged students. Expected outcomes involve the addition of dual enrollment courses, purchase of equipment, teacher training, and tracking student transitions. Partnerships with PCC and local entities contribute to sustainability, while student support activities emphasize career awareness, financial aid guidance, and college admissions support.
