Pathways Improvement Scope

Warren High School is launching a new 2-year Mechatronics & Industrial Automation pathway in Fall 2024, addressing the documented skills gap in mechatronics and industrial automation jobs. The pathway includes a pilot startup Concentrator course in Fall 2023 and aims to develop curriculum, build an industry shop, and provide foundational skills applicable across sectors. The program involves professional development for CTE teachers, student support from trained technicians, collaboration with UC South Coast Research and Extension Center, and the incorporation of certifications and internship opportunities. The pathway aligns with industry demands and prepares students for community college or university degrees. Measurable outcomes include industry credentials, work-based learning portfolios, internships, and articulation with Cerritos College. Efforts to close equity gaps include the implementation of Integrated Math 3 with a work-based learning approach. The pathway offers a competitive advantage for students entering high-wage, high-skilled jobs in the manufacturing hub of LA Metro.

Goals & Priorities

The Mechatronics & Industrial Automation project at Warren High School is geared towards providing pathway students with a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience spanning various industry sectors. The project includes the launch of a new 2-year Mechatronics & Industrial Automation pathway in collaboration with Cerritos College, as well as hands-on work-based learning projects, and multiple Amatrol certifications. The initiative also emphasizes career exploration through guest speakers, university representatives, and participation in the DowneyMADE internship pre-apprenticeship program during the summer. Collaboration with the Linked Learning Alliance further enhances college and career exploration opportunities for students. All of these activities aim to equip students with foundational skills and industry-recognized credentials, preparing them for the growing field of mechatronics and industrial automation.
