Pathways Improvement Scope
The ABC Unified School District’s Building Experiences and Supporting Technology (BEST) Program is a comprehensive initiative driven by collaboration with local and regional partners, including Cerritos College, industry experts, community organizations, and advisory committees. Focused on high-priority sectors in the Los Angeles job market, the program aims to provide equitable access to high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. With an emphasis on strengthening alignment with postsecondary pathways, BEST strives to expand dual enrollment, create a seamless educational journey from middle school to community college, and increase pathway participants and completers. Targeted recruitment, improved equity and access through new pathways and exploration opportunities, and alignment with industry certifications are key objectives. The program also emphasizes targeted support, work-based learning experiences, and industry engagement to enhance students’ academic and professional success. Consistent community and stakeholder relationships ensure alignment with regional needs and priorities.
Goals & Priorities
ABCUSD central’s mission is to provide every student with versatile learning opportunities and the chance to explore Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. In collaboration with CALAPS, they will be introducing two new pathways – Fire Science and Culinary – enriching their student’s educational landscape. To further enhance CTE engagement, ABCUSD will be launching after-school programs and summer bridge workshops tailored for middle school students. Recognizing the importance of personalized guidance, ABCUSD will be empowering its counselors to create academic plans that not only address potential barriers but also pave the way for a seamless transition into college or a career. Utilizing Thrively, students will identify their skill sets, align them with pathways, and build comprehensive portfolios. Moreover, their commitment extends to expanding internship opportunities within the Medical Assisting, Welding, and Transportation pathways through strategic industry partnerships.
