Pathways Improvement Scope
The project seeks to increase sections for student participation at South Hills and Northview High. Develop internships for students in the medical field. Teacher of record will recruit partners and place students across the local area. Increase career exploration/college transition with the local colleges and Vocational training facilities. Counselors and teacher of record will conduct career exploration services for students. Provide industry-standard equipment and experiences on campus for each new pathway. The teacher of record, District Nurse, and Adult Education Nursing Program Director for C-VUSD will develop a resource list to create the proper classroom lab environment for Medical Assisting on both high school campuses. State-of-the-art nurse assisting equipment will be purchased with the majority of the SWP funding.
Goals & Priorities
Increase sections for student participation at South Hills and Northview High. The sites will develop a year two course in Body Systems and Disorders. It will be added to the master schedule and the teacher will need to be hired to take on the new course load. Year one course medical Careers is currently running with a CTE instructor and is not equipment intensive. The sites will develop the year three Medical Assisting course – this course will include practicum hours and internship placement. Site LCAP writers have already incorporated the CTE expansion for proper classroom lab environment for Medical Assisting on both high school campuses. Through the advisement of industry professionals, state-of-the-art nurse assisting equipment will be purchased with the majority of the SWP funding. The items will encompass all of the necessary equipment to run a Medical Assisting training facility. The SWP allocation of funds will be used specifically for these purposes. Students will experience work based learning in the new Medical Assisting lab.
