Pathways Improvement Scope

New Designs plan to address the following areas that were found as lacking support in their five CTE pathways: Middle school students are not exposed to career awareness or exploration|Students and parents do not see the value of current CTE program; therefore a perception change is needed through counseling & marketing|The CTE course syllabi must be updated to more closely align to the workforce needs of our local region and meet A-G requirements|Almost all of our students are socio-economically disadvantaged and stakeholders would like to see more facilities and labs with the latest technologies to support experiential learning|In need of more CTE qualified faculty and opportunities for current teachers to gain professional development & externships|A need to increase and further develop industry engagement and work-based learning for students.

Goals & Priorities

New Designs plans to update career pathways curricula and equipment to align with the regional initiatives|Create three middle school Career Exploration labs through Paxton/Patterson, one for each school site|Solidify and grow pathway sequences for five career pathways and potentially replace four of our five curricula with CTE courses leading to industry certificates in the areas of Health Science, Information and Communication Technology, Business & Finance, and Transportation|Hire Career Counseling Coordinator at each LEA to manage school program activities for K12 SWP, including alignment of counseling efforts with Community Colleges|Develop partnership with LA Metro & LADWP among others to offer paid summer jobs through workforce programs|purchase Middle School CTE LAB|Hire Career counseling Coordinators for each campus. Postsecondary Transition and Completion|Increase Dual Enrollment Classes. CTE Counselors Guide students through College Onboarding and Matriculation|Program Outreach Consultant to build College and Industry Partnerships|Outreach Consultants Establish WBL opportunities with Industry partners|Soft Skills contextualized in CTE.
