Pathways Improvement Scope

Capitalizing on existing partnerships, LAPCHS will develop a collaborative regional approach to align K-14 pathways for student success by strengthening career pathways across SLATE-Z, a federally designated Promise Zone and collective impact partnership with the mission to revitalize South LA.

Goals & Priorities

Establishing a regional Pathway Improvement team to oversee career programs across the community is essential to strengthening student academic and career outcomes. A collaborative, regional approach engaging the 10 SLATE-Z high schools, LATTC, and industry partners will leverage central resources in developing career pathways. A centralized group will directly address Principals’ concerns regarding capacity by building more infrastructure to handle all the co-curricular components of Pathway Improvement. The Director, Pathway Coordinators, and Data Manager hired through this grant will augment the capacity of current CTE high school and college staff, allowing teachers to focus on instruction. The regional Pathway Improvement team will develop the complementary components of a holistic career pathway, including articulation agreements, robust student supports, and work based learning opportunities. Additional strategies include: strengthening student supports for successful transitions, enhancing industry engagement and work-based learning, development and expansion of rigorous K14 articulated career pathways in identified priority sectors, and teacher and faculty engagement and development.
