Pathways Improvement Scope

For this project, our focus will be on student enrichment, work-study programs, and career exposure at the community college level. By leveraging our partnership with Compton College, Cerritos College, Hub Cities and LAEDC, we will look to place students to work while in high school with direct support for training.

Goals & Priorities

Collaborate with both Compton College and the LA Economic Development Corporation to increase opportunities to enrichment in various industry fields. Coordinate with college partners to provide dual enrollment courses, workshops or field trips related to the following pathways: Biotechnology, Welding and Machine tool technologies, Computer Information Systems, Nursing, and education. Provide classroom and lab space for implementation of introductory college coursework, dual enrollment opportunities, workshops and seminars that allow students to be exposed to hands-on high quality CTE. Expose additional students to the selected career industries at the middle school level by expanding access to the number of sections and curriculum to Project Lead the Way and Paxton Patterson programming. Intentionally provide work-based learning opportunities through the support of the LA Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) and the Lynwood Partners Education Foundation (LPEF) in three key areas: 1. Career exploration through additional access to career speakers, 2. Providing identified skills workshops or career mentorships for concentrator and capstone students in these programs. 3. Access to apprenticeship programs related to the proposed pathways.
