LARC has been actively fostering collaboration among the esteemed faculty of #19Strong LA County colleges since 2020. Faculty are the backbone of our colleges, and we are immensely grateful for the exceptional faculty leaders representing a diverse array of programs, from core subjects to career education programs like information technology and healthcare.
LARC’s Assistant Vice President/Chair Dr. Narineh Makijan welcomed 90 faculty members from all of our LA19 colleges to the LARC Faculty Equity Institute: Faculty Innovation Hub Applied Learning Innovation & Equity Convening Workshop. Held at the California Endowment Center, faculty from across the LA19 colleges came together to share equity data across various applied learning areas in the following meta clusters: Business, Media & Entertainment, Technology, and Health Sciences.
Faculty also shared best practices and learned about Cultural Competency and the importance of embracing students’ lived experiences. Faculty also had the opportunity to listen to student testimonials, gaining insights into creating inclusive and supportive environments for all students to thrive. In the afternoon, faculty delved into building toolkits and analyzing program-specific data within their respective applied learning meta clusters.
A touching testimony from a Health Sciences faculty member encapsulated the significance of the day, describing it as the best experience since beginning their journey as a faculty member.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all LA19 faculty members who are innovative, collaborative, equity-driven, and dedicated to student success.
A special thank you goes to the Faculty Hub Steering Committee, whose dedication over the past year (and for some, a couple of years) has been instrumental in building the Faculty Innovation Hub. We are incredibly proud of their leadership, innovation and commitment to our region.
This event showcased the profound impact #19strong community colleges can have on our students’ success when we collaborate and work together toward our mission. We are still amazed by the success of this institute and eagerly anticipate sharing more updates as the Faculty Equity Institute continues to evolve. Stay tuned for a sneak peek of our LA19 Canvas (Instructure) platform, which we’re developing with our #19Strong faculty to facilitate faculty collaboration, resource sharing, and community building, while also providing students with access to test prep materials to help them succeed in their program-specific examinations.
Finally, none of this would be possible without the exceptional coordination, support, facilitation, and project management from the BrandIQ team, led by CEO Mike Murphy.
