LA-26: KASMA Healthcare Pathways Initiative

Pathways Improvement Scope

The KASMA Healthcare Pathways Initiative will expand and strengthen Las Virgenes Unified School District’s existing Sports Medicine and Healthcare pathway by increasing dual enrollment opportunities, developing articulation agreements with Los Angeles Pierce College, and enhancing work-based learning experiences. The project focuses on creating a seamless K-14 healthcare pathway that includes early college credit, industry-recognized certifications, clinical experiences, internships, and career readiness activities aligned with high-demand healthcare occupations. The initiative also emphasizes equitable access and support for underrepresented student groups, including English Learners, students with disabilities, and other disproportionately impacted populations.

Goals & Priorities

The primary goals of the initiative are to increase student participation and completion in the Sports Medicine pathway, expand healthcare dual enrollment enrollment and transferable college credit opportunities, strengthen alignment between high school and community college healthcare programs, and provide meaningful work-based learning experiences for all pathway students. Key priorities include addressing regional healthcare workforce shortages, closing equity gaps in pathway participation, increasing industry-recognized certifications, ensuring every student develops a postsecondary transition plan, and preparing students for high-wage, high-demand healthcare careers through strong partnerships with Pierce College and healthcare industry employers.
