The Blue Economy and Climate Action Pathways (BECAP) initiative spearheads efforts to address the evolving employment landscape in Los Angeles’ ocean-related markets, aligning seamlessly with California’s climate action and environmental justice priorities. Informed by insights from the Ocean Economy 101 report and the national Ocean Climate Action Plan, BECAP sets visionary goals. These include enhancing career education training in promising ocean economy pathways such as Regenerative Aquaculture, Ocean Renewable Energy & Clean Air, Blue Tech & Underwater Robotics, and Ecosystems Conservation and Restoration. The initiative’s approach involves curriculum development, STEM and CTE program updates, fostering faculty communities, and building partnerships. BECAP is committed to assisting students in securing jobs and internships, creating a dynamic learning environment embracing traditional and emerging careers within the Blue Economy. Pioneering an interdisciplinary approach, integrating technology, entrepreneurship, and global trade, BECAP plays a vital role in fostering the growth of the ocean economy in Los Angeles.
